Finally, I have cooked the food I have been craving for a long time now, which is "Saluyot" or Jute in English. It's bee 8 years since I got here in the U.S. but only cooked it twice. Hubby didn't like it the first time, but am sure he'll like it just like my son who ate it last night for the first time. Anyway, It tasted good but even better I think had I put "Tinapa" or smoked Fish, or fried Tilapia or Bangus....but I couldn't find it at the Asian store. So here it is.
This is cooked with anchovy (bagoong), fish ( if you have it handy), long beans, eggplant, bamboo shoots, papaya, saluyot and of course tamarind or sinigang mix if you don't have fresh tamarind. Okay, this is how my mother cooks it and I just follow her way.
This dish is very much appreciated by Ilokanos and Tagalogs.

ReplyDeleteOh this is one of the very few I never liked. As a kid I ate it as whatever my folks put in our plates we must finish haha! But I am open to trying it again. Might end up loving it. Yung okra, ayaw ko din noon, now I love it!

ReplyDeletedi kaya ng powers ko ang saluyot. di ba parang humihigop ka ng laway? hahahaha but my loves saluyot--laswa naman ang sa mga Ilonggo. a mixture of green vegetables with bagoong and shrimps or alamang, no tamarind. when my mom cooks laswa, the Ilonggo neighbors have a bowl each.:p
